The 11th Meeting of Nepal-China Non-Governmental Cooperation Forum was held in Kathmandu, Nepal from 16th to 17th September, 2010. Presented at the forum were Nepalese and Chinese industrial and commercial delegations headed by Mr. Kush Kumar Joshi, President, Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FNCCI) and Mr. Quan Zhezhu, First Vice-chairman of All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC) respectively.
The Inauguration Program of the Forum Meeting started with the welcome remarks by Mr. Kush Kumar Joshi, President of FNCCI. His Excellency Mr. Qiu Guohong, Ambassador of People's Republic of China to Nepal delivered their remarks, followed by remarks by Mr. Quan Zhezhu, the leader of the ACFIC delegation,
Chief Guest Rt. Hon'ble Mr. Subash Chandra Nembang, Chair of the Constituent Assembly of Nepal delivered his inaugural address. Mr. Rajesh Kazi Shrestha, President of Nepal-China Chamber of Commerce & Industry delivered vote of thanks.
After the inauguration session, a Seminar with two Business Sessions was held. The first session of the Seminar was chaired by Hon'ble Dr. Jagadish Chandra Pokharel, Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission. A paper on "Nepal's Policy for Hydropower Development" was presented by Mr. Sriranjan Lakoul, from the Ministry of Energy in the fist session. A second paper on “Hydropower in Nepal- A Golden Investment Opportunity" was presented by Mr. Gyanendra Lal Pradhan, Coordinator of Hydropower Forum of FNCCI.
The second session was chaired by Dr. Madan Kumar Bhattarai, Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In this session, two papers on "How China can help in Hydropower sector in Nepal" were presented; by Mr. Wang Yong, Executive Vice Chairman of Hanergy Holdings Group; and Mr. Gaojianyun, Chairman of Kunming Weigong Hydro-electricity Engineering Technology Co. Ltd.; respectively from the Chinese side.
Business to Business Meetings between Nepalese and Chinese entrepreneurs were held to allow the business persons from both sides to explore the mutual cooperation and investment opportunities.
Through friendly consultations and negotiations between the two parties, the 11th meeting of the Forum agreed to adopt the following:
1. Both sides are pleased with the complete success of the 11th Meeting of the Nepal-China Non-Governmental Cooperation Forum, and express satisfaction over the activities of the Forum. The Chinese side expressed their appreciation and gratefulness to the FNCCI and the Government of Nepal for the warm hospitality and excellent arrangements of the meeting. The Nepalese side expressed its sincere thanks to the ACFIC and Government of China for their cooperation.
2. Both sides agreed to work together for the development of the hydropower and energy sector of Nepal, through mutual cooperation and investment.
3. Both sides agreed to further expand cooperation, by providing good opportunities, to accelerate bilateral trade, tourism and investment.
4. Both sides agreed that the Forum's activities have led to positive achievements and strengthened mutual relations.
5. Both sides acknowledged that the mutual relationship has entered a new phase of development, and the Forum, with its non-governmental characteristics, has a greater role to play in expanding bilateral economic cooperation in the days to come.
6. Both sides agreed that under the framework of the Forum; both side will work for further exchange of business and professional delegations, trainings for Nepalese entrepreneurs, more communications and exchange of business and economic information, and assistance to the entrepreneurs from respective countries to conduct businesses.
7. It was agreed that the 12th Meeting of the Forum will be held in China. The time, venue and theme of the next Forum meeting shall be finalized through mutual consultation between FNCCI and ACFIC.
8. This memorandum is prepared in two languages in Chinese and English, with two copies of each language. Both parties shall keep a copy in Chinese and English.
