SAARC
Car Rally 2007 At the 13th SAARC Summit, Prime Minister of India floated the idea of SAARC Car Rally to be held during the 14th SAARC Summit and this idea had been endorsed by all the Head of States of the Member states. The Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) is given the responsibility to implement this project in coordination with the concerned stakeholders of the Member states as a Public-Private Partnership program. The major objective of this rally is to promote regional connectivity, people-to-people contact, goodwill, trade, tourism and business among the Member states. There would be around 100 participants from the SAARC member countries participating in this rally and it comprises of High Ranking Government officials, businessmen, eminent personalities and media personnel. The rally is scheduled to start from Cox Bazaar, Bangladesh on 15th March 2007 and end in Male on the 14th of April 2007 after traveling to Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka. It is scheduled to enter Nepal (Kakadbhitta) on the 23rd of March 2007, Friday via Siliguri. There would be three night halts and 4 days in Nepal starting from Pokhara, then Kathmadu and then Lumbini. The rally is scheduled to exit Nepal via Mahendranagar on the 26th of March 2007, Monday. It will cover 1567 kms in Nepal. The Nepal part of the rally is being jointly organized by the Government of Nepal and Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and promoted by Nepal Tourism Board. The local level chambers as well as other concerned stakeholder organizations and individuals are also involved for effective organization of the event.
During the event there would be a half day business seminar in Kathmandu on the 24th of March 2007, Saturday. Topic of the seminar is "Energy Efficiency and Clean Development Mechanism." On
27th March 2007, Tuesday a press meet was organized at the FNCCI secretariat
to disseminate the information about this rally. The event in itself is
of great importance and has given us the opportunity to showcase Nepal
to the South Asian region and hence the President of FNCCI using this
platform has urged all the parties and organizations not to hold any bandhs
or strikes during the event. |
